About ConstructAhead

Free construction material calculators, built to be accurate enough to order from.

Why this exists

Ordering materials is where projects lose money. Order short and you’re paying for a second delivery — or stopping a pour halfway. Order long and you’re storing forty bags of mix you’ll never open. Either way, the mistake usually traces back to a calculation done quickly, on a phone, in the middle of a job.

Most online calculators don’t help much. They ask for length, width and depth, return a single number, and leave you to work out how that translates into what you actually buy. ConstructAhead was built to close that gap: enter your dimensions, get the quantity in the units your supplier sells in — bags, boxes, sheets, posts — with waste already accounted for.

How we build them

Every calculator uses the same standard formulas a quantity surveyor or estimator would apply — volume for concrete, coverage area for tile and drywall, linear runs and post spacing for fencing.

Three things we insist on:

Results in buyable units. Cubic yards are useful; “62 bags of 80 lb mix” is what you take to the counter. Every calculator converts to the unit the material is actually sold in.

Waste allowance built in, and editable. No real job runs at 100% material efficiency. Defaults reflect typical conditions — and where layout affects waste, like diagonal tile, the default adjusts automatically. You can always override it.

Shapes that match real jobs. A slab, a backsplash, a fence line, a room to drywall. Not generic geometry with the trade context stripped out.

What we're working on

ConstructAhead is early. The four calculators here are the start of a wider set — gravel, paver, brick, roofing, insulation and lumber calculators are in progress.

We’re also working with contractors to validate our material and cost assumptions against real supplier pricing before we publish cost estimates. We’d rather ship a quantity you can trust than a price you can’t.

Who builds ConstructAhead

ConstructAhead is built and maintained by Codexia Technologies, a software development team that has delivered 250+ products for clients across the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia — spanning healthtech, fintech, proptech and logistics.

We built these tools because the free ones we found weren’t good enough to order from. If you’re building something and need a team, we’d be glad to hear from you.

Estimates, not quotes

Every result here is an estimate. Material prices vary by region and supplier, site conditions vary more than any calculator can model, and structural work should always be confirmed with a licensed professional.

Use these numbers to plan and budget — then verify with your supplier before ordering.
